Detroit Rockin' and Dirty/Monkey exhibits...

First off, since winding down from all the Glowing Places exhibition activity in the late fall, I've been spending a lot of time photographing my musician pals The Beggars and Johnny Headband performing in various venues in and around Windsor/Detroit. Both bands have their own portfolios under my portfolios section - check it out! All of these guys are awesome, and I highly recommend you get your butt out to one of their shows asap! It's been just a great time - plus, I'm starting to really get to know Hamtramck... (what's "Hamtramck"? look at a map of Detroit.)

But now (ahem), back to art... For those of you who missed the Glowing Places exhibits, I'll be showing my work at Windsor's Flying Monkey Cafe and Juice Bar, 255 Ouellette Ave., from March 26 to April 18. The opening reception will be Saturday, March 26, starting at 7pm. I'm very excited to announce that Windsor's unique cabaret-style duo Teach Yourself Piano will be playing 2 sets that night, the first one starting around 8pm. Who knows what time we'll finish... Come on out, it's going to be a great night! (and in case you're wondering, the place does have a liquor license, and good food - of course!!)

Did everyone get out to this year's Detroit Dirty Show?? Once again, it was the art EVENT of the year. Lots of people, lots of craziness. My two entries can be seen here.

Next I want to share an article that appeared in Upfront magazine in conjunction with the Glowing Places Windsor show. Special thanks to Dan MacDonald for his interest in my work and the great write-up!

Finally, I want to thank all of the staff at Katnandu for inviting me to exhibit there during the month of January. The opening night was a bust due to the massive snowstorm, but they were flexible and we re-did the event the following weekend. Thanks to everyone who came out and everyone who helped out - especially to Megan, Anne Marie and Andrew for their help with setup and teardown.

(update: Jan.9/04)

Glowing Places is a hit!

The October exhibition of Glowing Places at Artspeak gallery and the November exhibition at The Majestic in Detroit were both well-attended and well-received. Thanks to all who came out to the openings - and especially to Andrew, Keith, Chad, Anne Marie, Megan, Mom and John for their help with the setup and teardown. I couldn't do this without the support of my friends and family! Photos of the exhibit, receptions and an online catalogue of the images in the show will be posted here soon.

NEWSFLASH! Glowing Places moves to the Walkerville area of Windsor for the month of January/05. My work will be hanging all month at Katnandu, located at 1701 Wyandotte East. The opening reception will be on Saturday, Jan.22 from 7-10pm. Hope to see you there!

Warfare Records announces its latest act Emazin & Goodson with the release of their debut CD "Serious". The CD cover art features an airbrush painting of one of my photos, and another of my shots is featured on the back. It's been a great experience working with Derrick and the gang, and I hope to continue with future artists. Images from the CD to be posted here very soon. (Click image above for larger views.)

~Wheaton photo cards now available in two local card stores~

I now have a wide variety of photo notecards (blank inside) available for purchase at "From the Heart", a charming card and gift store located at 1356 Ottawa St. in Windsor. Jackie (the owner) is a wonderful woman - drop by and browse!

Cards are now also available at "The Courtyard" gift shop at 3315 Tecumseh Rd. East in Windsor. Drop by and say hi to Manuela.

In August, the Walkerville area of Windsor hosted its first art walk, "ART WALKerville", where over 20 businesses conducted open houses and showcased the work of different local artists. I had the pleasure of showing my work at the Walkerville Brewery (seriously, I didn't ask for the brewery... just really lucky I guess! Good beer.) Literally hundreds came through to see the work, and I met tons of great people. Click hereto see some of the setup.

BIG thanks to Chris, Megan, and Anna for all of their help, support, shlepping and advice. I seriously could not have done this one alone!

This year I decided to try something different for the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario's photo contest: shoot in colour! It was a challenge but as it turned out, I got two Honourable Mentions for my efforts. This year was the biggest year ever for the contest (well over 100 entries), and the work was splendid. This year's theme was "Tombstones", and I decided to shoot at night. It was a great learning experience, as I have been trying to hone my night shooting skills lately (I've been inspired by Troy Paiva's work - check out his great website).

Warfare Records hired me to do promotional shots for their popular act God's Army. We did b&w promotional shots as well as colour work for the CD. The CD release party was a smash, and "Mission Not Impossible" looks and sounds great (thanks to John at rhemaworks for making the photos really shine)!

Check out the CD art.

Check out the b&w promo shots.

Check out a few pics from the release concert.

Now this was a hoot. Detroit's 5th annual Dirty Show featuring nothing but Erotic Art was H U G E. The largest art opening in Detroit's history, I am told. We left at 11pm because it was overwhelmingly packed, and there was still a lineup around the block of people waiting to get in! I was tickled to have three of my pieces accepted into this show.

Read the Metro Times article about the show.

As a member of the 29 Palms Gallery in California, I recently I took part in their annual Members' Show - and received an Honourable Mention for Yucca Valley Church. This one's for you, Margo.
